Cleveleys Car Show rolled into town this weekend - a bigger event over a bigger area - including for the first time children's rides and inflatable slides on Jubilee Gardens.
Opened by Paul Maynard MP at 10am, the Car Show was a busy day from beginning to end, with approximately 400 cars, vehicles and bikes lining the closed section of Victoria Road West and the whole of the promenade from the Kingsway junction with Blackpool, as far as Jubilee Gardens to the north.
Many of the car owners travel a distance to show off their pride and joy, and to be able to spend the day with your vehicle parked actually on the promenade, right against the sea as you can see in this short video clip below must surely be a quite unique experience!
Tens of thousands of people enjoyed a free, family day out, looking at the exhibits and enjoying the entertainment and stalls. Although there was (as usual!) a breeze, the sun shone all day and the crowds never thinned from start to finish.
It was a fabulous event, well run and managed, and a credit to everyone who was involved in organising it. It's a privilege to live in a place like this and be a part of the community which has a sense of responsibility and pride and strives to do it's best by Cleveleys - not just today but throughout the year.
The organisers have done a tremendous job of growing the event year on year, and it's now a firm fixture in the annual car enthusiasts calendar, along with other well known events enjoyed by vehicle owners from all over the north west and even further afield. Many of the vehicle owners left the event asking about the date for next year and wanting to book to come back. The Tameside Car Club asked if they could reserve 40 spaces for next year. They normally go to another show but they prefer to come to Cleveleys instead!
A spokesperson for the organising team said "Even though our event is attracting a huge crowd each year, the car show is still a young event, so this year the funfair operators will test the water with a small fair on the day. We're expecting that after the success of this years event it will be a bigger funfair which stays for longer next year!"
